Two things:
First, I'm a free software developer - the KDE vs GNOME or QT vs GTK+ issue is not one I spend a lot of time thinking about. I use GNOME, and also work on the OpenWengo project. This does not cause me any personal conflict whatsoever (and also allows me to see a lot of the problems that ISDs have building software for any free software desktop).
Second, before I was hired by Wengo to work with the OpenWengo project, I was working on in-house proprietary software for a big company, and wasn't havng much fun. Working on a free software project is a definite step up in the world :)
