Still making door disappear with port knocking is still a good idea. If cannot find door not a problem. Moving port does not hide door.
No, but neither does port knocking. It can be brute forced the same way a weak password can, but worse, it can be sniffed (it's just like telnet: sending the password out in plaintext).
If you want to stop an attack, disable password login and crank up the public key length.
