As someone who has been running servers on the internet for 10 years now and is scanned on a daily basis, I can say that there really are many many ports that never get scanned. I've gone through my firewall logs many times looking for ports that never get scanned and there are many that never get hit in a year's time at least.
So this will at least keep a lot of script kiddies out. People who are really determined will eventually find the port, but those who are really determined will give you a lot more than ssh to worry about.
