Well of course. I do more than just change my port. Chaning the port however helps a bit to keep them out. If for some reason I miss a security update or if someone gets lucky, I have a little extra protection. Its somewhat simular to the practice of making your hosts not pingable.
The better hackers probably are using bots that do the scanning 24/7 and then return a list of potential targets to them. If I can keep myself off that list, then that's good.
