for more advanced transaction than the Nagios check_http plugin gives you, check out WebInject (<a href="http://www.webinject.org/" title="webinject.org">http://www.webinject.org/</a webinject.org>). it is an open source tool that can be used as a Nagios Plugin for creating more intelligent web agents (logins, cookies, multi-step transactions, authentication, etc).
