You're missing the point. LinuxFund is not using BoA as a merchant account provider for people to directly donate money. That would be trivial to replace.
Instead, LinuxFund is using BoA to ISSUE Linux-branded credit cards (with, say, Tux silkscreened on the front of the card) as part of an "affinity" program. Then, some small fraction of ALL charges made on that card are funneled to the LinuxFund projects.
So, it allows one to give without directly having to allocate money to those projects.
It's quite non-trivial to replicate this sort of agreement, which is the entire point of the article...
