I'm not quite sure where you come to the conclusion that wear leveling would decrease MTBF. I would expect that for flash devices MTBF is completely independent of read access patterns, so from that perspective there would be no effect from wear leveling. For write accesses you get into the number-of-write lifetime issues, and from that perspective wear leveling is just plain good.

I would expect wear leveling to only increase MTBF.
