There may not be a merger however the two networks are working together insomuch as they are doing staff exchanges, sharing valuable information and resources which will ultimately benefit the open source community in the long run. The history between the networks may have been a little checkered but this newfound co-operation and the differences that have been put aside for the benefit of the open source community should be applauded.
Trolls are a fact of life with IRC, either you can get worked up about them or just ignore them, the latter of which they hate more then anything.
