I think it is worth noting that production for the XO is now ramping up for a big run in October. This news comes since the reconciliation between OLPC and Intel. Whether or not there is a direct connection, I have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me. Proprietary firms of all kinds, from O'Reilley to Intel to Novell, may not love the principles behind free software, but it is a growing part of their reality and they must learn to cope with it the best way they can. I think the chances of Intel being able to kill OLPC with Classmate or whatever are now extremely slim, and there is no doubt that their money will be put to good use helping educate the world's poorest children.
