"Everyone's favorite app?" Its Vim. It is the standard base text editor for GNU/Linux distros. Not including it was a questionable decision. I'm sorry if you're an emacs fan or one of the few people in the world who thinks that mcedit is a good text editor, but Vim is a standard tool that has little memory footprint and should have been installed.
