Did the same - used old PCs that were headed for recycle bin, they have been working find for 2 years.
The only thing missing with Ubuntu Studio - is the ability to have it sense other PCs on a network, auto network to them, do clustering, and LTSP at the same time. The video production feature of Ubuntu Studio (less Cinelerra, why it was not included is confusing) would benefit from a clustering built-in feature.
