X/OS is an undistinguished Red Hat clone

When "updates are not released as they appear upstream" with X/OS, but there are alternatives (surely CentOS and perhaps ScientificLinux) releasing updates as they appear upstream, I don't see the use of X/OS. ("Oracle and Microsoft are even worse, and they're still in business" because they are original and they do not allow alternatives.)

Regarding "UP-TO-DATE MEDIA" and "PRAGMATISM", I don't see any value of it. (1) Soon, with the release of, say CentOS 5.1, things will change. I mean it is temporary. (2) The update mechanism makes the OS always updated assuming one run an alternative releasing updates as they appear upstream.

Regarding "MIMICKING", if the user knows what any of "Virtualization (V), Cluster (U), Cluster Storage (G)", he/she can achieve what he/she needs through proper package selections (via yum/yumex/pirut). For most users, "Client/Desktop (C), Workstation (W), Server (S)" will be sufficient. But, the only difference among them are, again, what packages are installed. With help of yumex/pirut, it's not so big deal. Especially, pirut can help even naive users easily achieve it.

(By the way, I am not Preston St. Pierre ; I just happen to see this article and comments.)
