apt-get or aptitude to Debian is as yum to Redhat. Definitely shouldn't get this mixed up or you'll probably decide that removing rpm is a good thing as chances are you never realise you're using it.

The GUI tools are probably never going to have all the functionality of the command line tools. It's just the nature of the beast. Your reward for learning command line switches and reading man pages is usually a whole lot of functionality.
