Is there a specif reason for bridging the two interfaces other than rounting the IP traffic through the gateway route table?
I managed to install my Atheros AR5212 based card, but after trying to bridge it with my other 3Com NIC and several kernel panics I cannot even bring the interface up anymore.
user@host ~ $ sudo grep wifi /var/log/messages
Dec 9 10:40:18 host wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: 'Hardware didn't respond as expected' (HAL status 3)
user@host ~ $ uname -r
2.6.22-gentoo-r9
I've tried pretty much everything already, recompiled madwifi-ng, hal, kernel and so forth, but had no success so far. :-(
Weird enough, before all the kernel panics trying to bridge it was working just fine.

Anyone facing the same issues?
