It is true that you can have a bootable DSL or Puppy Linux on a USB stick But those two are two very limited distribution where the user is left to fend for himself!
On the other hand I could buy this mandriva flash and gave it to a friend who is not even aware that Linux exist and he would still be able to use it. This is a professional Linux distribution, not something that was put together by a bunch of hobbyists.
This is why it cost money.
