Thanks for this article, it just motivated me to start testing this application myself after having it installed for a while.
In the process of trying to figure which database to use i came across the following.
The KBarcode handbook states that it can import data from KDE address book.
Still searching for an inexpensive usb/serial laser barcode scanner that is compatible with linux.
