For anyone who is serious about a longterm solution needs to consider Drupal as their CMS. There are hundreds of reasons (literally)...
This article was created back in 2005, UberCart was created in 2006 if my memory serves me correctly. Since UberCart's arrival it has won my vote for a shopping cart system. I have tried the eCommerce module for Drupal but it lacks a lot of features, some very essential features. See my writeup (http://groups.drupal.org/node/4606).
