I already have a tool to determine compatability. It's called ./configure, executed by an admin who knows what he's doing.
A normal user running a certain program, and only that user, is a group/permission issue, not a package installation issue. So called 'simple' alternatives to Microsoft based ineptitude simply result in Linux ineptitude.
