I hope that this succeeds and that the writers find a way to stop being taken advantage of by the existing studios etc. I would love to see this extend to the music industry as well, I am tired of paying lots of money for cd's etc, knowing full well that the artist actually receive only a very small percentage of the proceeds with the bulk going to the RIAA. I would love to see some sort of online community established where we the consumers could directly interact with the artist and perhaps purchase their music, books, etc directly from them cutting out the middle man. I think that this is a real possibility if patterned after the FOSS model. Perhaps the writers could submit their ideas for a movie or play to their actual audience seeking investment directly from them to make the project a reality thus bypassing the traditional funding methods and prejudices. Any profits from the movie could be divided up among the various investors similar to how Mel Fisher did with the many people that risked their money backing his treasure hunting expeditions. One advantage of this would be demonstrating the level of support that would exist among the actual audience and if large enough would compel the theaters to show it.
