Introduction to NIS, the Network Information Service

I've setup LDAP... three (?) times... and it was "ugly" each time. I wasn't able to find good tools to manage it, either. NIS, albeit old and insecure, is easy to setup, is reliable, and is easy to manage (vi and good-ol' make). I wish that LDAP was better... but, IMHO, it's just not worth the effort that it requires. Then again, I've never had more than 400 local users. On clusters, I just use ssh keys.
