It used to be that NewsForge was used for free/open source articles that had nothing to do with Linux. Unfortunately, NewsForge now merely links to articles on linux.com (presumably because the linux.com domain name gets more eyeballs).
Still, I feel like this change of focus is not a good thing for linux.com as it dilutes the mission "to give you all of the resources and information you need to make your experience with Linux a success."
