You know what a state machine is, no? How does init handle IP address changes and the needed service restarts depending on the IP? Not to mention automatic service restarts when config files change. Event based systems are a great concept for such tasks.
I have absolutely no sympathy for those "it's been around for 30+ years, don't change it" moanings. Ah, and wrt "right tool for the job"..., where's the definition for "job" again?
