i think Microsoft admitting to sending letters of support to various NGOs shouldn't be seen in negative light. every company and every technology wants to spread its message its message far and wide. what would be insulting for Indians would be if any company tried to wrongfully do it. IBM had sent letters to its partners to "influence" govt and other bodies to get a "NO" for OOXML from India. India has voted NO... so it is obvious that IBM's bride was a large sum compared to MS :).. read about this IBM letter here: http://www.askvg.com/should-india-be-held-hostage-to-unilateral-views-on-open-xml/
we should concentrate on making our community stronger and our technologies so desirable that people naturally get pulled towards our technology.. ODF or OOXML doesn't matter till it benefits the community!
