I appreciate your honest and blunt feedback. I did not do a very good job of framing my response on the desktop question. Linux is clearly a very strong server platform. I belive that on the desktop front, Linux needs to follow the same maturity curve as the server...and its not a question of IF it will..but just a question of WHEN it will. Just like you, I would very much like to see a few viable desktop alternatives...competition is healthy for the market. I will gladly embrace the Linux desktop when it is ready for mass consumption, including the availability of third party applications eco system.
I am sure that with passion and commitment from Linux enthusiasts like yourself that day is not too far.
