This is a particularly poor article. If you want to do provide a useful look at virtualization on Linux the leading contenders are KVM (the only hypervisor merged in upstream Linux kernel), and Xen (shipped in every major Enterprise distribution, and many community distributions). The virt-manager application (http://virt-manager.org/) provides a comprehensive desktop management UI working with both KVM and Xen equivalent to VMWare Desktop/Server.
