I've used VirtualBox for almost 2 years now on Ubuntu & Gentoo. Works GREAT. Sun just purchased them, too. I had many issues with VMWare clock ticks working correctly, so my virtual would hyper warp all day long (sometimes many hours in just 30 minutes or so) and could never solve the issue, but supposedly you can.
