I've been booting Fedora Sulphur from a 2G flash drive for a couple of weeks on my Dell XPS laptop and have had a lot of fun with it. I allowed 1200MB for the persistent overlay on the 2G stick, on a 1G stick you could use 250MB (I got those numbers from an article on redhatmagazine.com.) I installed ntfs-config and have access to my Windows installation. I have installed software from the repository, my favorite Firefox extensions, Gnome themes and icon sets. It behaves very much a local installation.
