I have talked to Dimdim support about this and this is what I found out -
The first version of screensharing was taking up too much bandwidth and wasn't usable for most of their user base. They have then shifted to a tightvnc based screensharing which reduces bandwidth consumption quite a bit. They also seem to have remote control as a planned feature in their road map, which was another reason why they shifted to a vnc based screensharing.
Unfortunately, graphic accelerated software (like Blender) have issues with sharing in VNC - both on windows and linux. On linux, Blender is available as a separate build without graphic acceleration. This edition is slower but would work on VNC. In Windows, the solution that they offered to me was to model in a different box and render it on a different one (the one I want to share) using command line options.
