One of the potential benefits could be dramatically improved interoperability with Linux desktops. Keeping in mind that Nokia owns Trolltech, there are close relations to KDE. The benefits are far better sync between the PC and the phone. Another improvement I foresee is the possibility to upgrade firmware and installation of software on the phones from Linux machines. KDE 4.1 will be useable on "all" platforms and it could be sensible to use this advantage to improve administration of the handset.
