Mozilla officially scores a world record

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but so what?

It's just another staged event that's essentially meaningless in the larger scheme of things.

The most downloads in a 24-hr period? What does that prove? If Microsoft were to put something like Word up for a free download for 24-hrs I'd bet they'd blow the doors off the Mozilla's "record." Assuming, of course, their Win2K servers didn't crap out first. <grin*>

If FOSS is going to survive, it needs to focus on what really matters: proprietary vendors and MS sowing FUD and entering into licensing schemes with the OSS community. All these "feel good" non-events just serve as a distraction to what Mozilla and others of like ilk need to be paying attention to.

So sorry if I'm not giddy about the new record. It's just another way of "whistling in the dark."
