Except, dumbass, a large portion of the Linux community has MySQL already running on their machine, so pointing your logs to it is only a trivial change.
It also means there is a chance of loosing some syslog lines, but it gives you much less disk writes.
Prove it. Show me the numbers. Show me how many less disk writes this dumbass scheme is going to save me. Show me what I'm gaining for an obsurdly overly-complex solution to a non-problem.
