OpenID 2.0 is overly complex

It's true that OpenID 2.0 is overly complex. This wasn't always the case -- OpenID 1.1 was elegant simplicity. It's why some sites have chosen to implement OpenID 1.1 but not 2.0 -- call it "OpenID Lite" if you like. It's also the reason why Yahoo! is unusable as an OpenID provider: they don't support 1.1.

OpenID 2.0 smacks of "design by committee." It looks like they took OpenID 1.1 plus all of the competing standards and simply mashed them all together.
