If you actually watched their press release, you would see that they insist more than once that they are -very- dedicated to producing the linux and osx versions, that the project started cross-platform, but that Windows was ready first and that they are anxious to receive user feedback.
ALL browsers are OS dependent. You think firefox is exactly the same on each OS? Unless you build something in a virtual environment like JAVA, applications are developed independently for each platform.
Furthermore, there are NO Google tie-ins in the browser. If you import your other browser settings, it will replace google with any other default search engine you use, as well as other preferences. So I don't know where the "Google is getting scary" is getting at.
