Time will tell if they're playing into MS' hands or not. What they are doing is targeting MS because MS is THE application platform for ... oh about 90% of all the market. They had to concentrate on MS, if they want to be the platform to compete. You may end up being right, MS once was concerned with Lotus Notes, and once was concerned with Netscape navigator. We know what happened to those possible competitors. Google has certain advantages over them that MS may not be able to easily fight off.
As I said time will tell. Myself, I applaud google for their effort. I may wish that they had developed for all platforms simultaneously, but I understand why they concentrated on Windows, as everyone here should.
