While a nice project, like lots of Opensource projects, Openfiler is not ready for Enterprise, or even average IT guy usage, unless you want to spend lots of time tweaking and fiddling with it. It is not an "install and use" prospect.

First, there is no documentation, other than random tidbits on the forum. If you want real documentation, you have to buy it (but the doc for the current version aren't done yet). If you want to use a UPS (which you should), you have to figure out NUT and configure it by hand, as there is no webGUI interface at all. If you want to monitor drive temperatures or any SMART values, again, it's not setup and there is no webGUI. As to the forums, most questions seem to either go unanswered or get very terse replies that basically tell you to figure it out yourself.

All of the foregoing comments are not meant as a pan to Openfiler, but just reflect the fact that this project, while very useful, is not at the "appliance" stage where a busy admin can just use it, without taking the time to be the uber-geek to obtain full functionality. There are times when you want to spend hours fiddling with something and times when you just need it work, so you can get the job done. Openfiler is not in the "get the job done" category yet.
