The various IM protocols like MSN exchange passwords in plain text so storing them as such is very little additional risk. In the case of MSN and Yahoo, your also anouncing your email credentials each time your IM connects. If the IM protocol weaknessess where to be addressed properly then this would more of an issue.
On the up side, if you forget a password, you can always pop it off the wire just like anyone with malicious intent would do. ;)
