Just an FYI - development has stopped for the moment on Areca as well. I emailed the author over the weekend as I was looking at Areca to back up my Linux desktop, but it seemed like development had really slowed since the last release.
Received a very nice and prompt reply from him that, barring major bugs, he will be spending no more time with user support or non-major bug fixes. He said in his email that personal and professional life demands have become incompatible with continuing to work on Areca.
That said, I have Areca installed and it is working quite well. :)
