This is true what you say. However, the situation of video editing is quite out of the developers hands at this point. The same problem persist in all other multimedia distributions such as Ubuntu Studio etc... Like you said, the only hope is really further development in lumiera or a commercial product. In the next version of the MMBD, we plan to include Kdenlive, which seems to also have some promise. Thanks for pointing that out!
