At least they can rest assured that his (birth) registry will never be corrupted and that he will be able to use new peripherals without rebooting. Of course generally he might not be able to use the newest peripherals right away but with time (and a kernel upgrade) you can be pretty sure they will work. Don't give him any binary blobs or you will have a real mess on your hands.
