VMWare Server is a great product but it's not quite comparable. Server displays the desktop through a remote desktop session even if it is running locally. It does not have features like multiple snapshots, Unity or 3d acceleration.
BTW, Sun's Virtualbox compared well with Server performance and features wise and it supports seamless mode ('Unity'). And it's free (as in beer and speech).
