I'd take Debian over Ubuntu any day of the week for any purpose. However, Ubuntu does seem to be a little-bit better suited for brand-new users (more 'out-of-the-box' functionality, a lot of newbie oriented documentation).
Anyone out there who got their first taste of Linux using Debian?
