Not to take anything at all away from Slackware, but by far the bulk of all new mobos are 64 bit, so not supporting them is indeed 'behind the times'. I was using Slackware since 2000, but when I upgraded to 64 bit smp, I switched to Slamd64 (which is far superior to BlueWhite64, both in it's Slackware feel and in stability, plus having excellent 32 bit support). I still use Slack on my P4.

But when a distro says it's based on Slackware, it needs to provide something above and beyond Slack, or there's no reason to not just use the original. I see a lot here that says good things, but nothing compelling enough for me to install it. A 64 bit version would tip the balance.
