I tried to run the kubuntu version under qemu. I tried both Cirrus and vesa options for qemu, and regular as well as safe boot options from the initial screen. In all cases the boot hangs just as it is about to go to the graphical boot.
I'm guessing the xorg they are using doesn't get alone with the qemu video emulation.
