Very timely helpful article.
I had been considering getting a GPS device sometime in the near future. After skimming through the article, I searched for "usb gps receiver" and discovered a Globalsat BU-353 for less than $37 at buygpsnow.com, and they also have downloadable a User Guide and drivers for Linux, OS/X, and several flavors of Windows.
I plan on ordering on of these devices to install on my Acer Aspire One.
