Transparent compression of files on optical media

I think the article made it clear that transparent decompression is working only on Linux platforms, so it won't work on a standalone dvd player (if that's what you mean). Besides, video files usually do not compress well.
Your best bet is to use some tool to transcode the media files to lower quality so that they can fit in a normal dvd.
