I'm trying this extension by some days now for a "serious" project, but I find it promising but still quite immature.
Especially the integration with the Sun Report Builder.. e.g. you can't edit the layout of the map, means quite useless..
Also the legend sometimes doesn't go correctly, and in some circumstances it make crash openoffice..
However, the idea is very useful.. I'm an economist and I see lot of economists using GISes just to display economic/social data over administrative layers.. I think for these tasks integration directly with a spreadsheet/database would be a better solution..
