The American Medical Association called for more research into the public health risks of video and Internet games on Wednesday but stopped short of declaring them addictive.
The AMA, which recommended a review of the current video game rating system, also said it would leave it up to the American Psychiatric Association and other experts to decide whether video game addiction should be designated a mental illness.

Video games addiction becomes a big problem in our modern society. It wasn't that bad 15 years ago with nintendo games that could be completed in 10-15 hours. But what about today mmorpg games? They are the problem. People start a level 1 and the first thing they see after killing 1-2 monsters is that they are already rewarded with level 2. It sure is a good way to keep them playing, wishing they could get stronger and get to level 3. This instant reward systems keeps gamers playing and playing, always used to be gratified with the time they put in the game. Small free role playing games are not the problem, people won't get addicted, but these huge mmorpg begin to hook more and more people every day. There was a problem in 1999 with the few thousand people playing everquest and ultima online. Now, it's million of people playing every day. Game addiction is a big problem and it will only get worst.
