Keep Selling the Cheap Laptop, Supporter Urges

As commercial sales of One Laptop Per Child's XO laptop close Monday, a user tracking the nonprofit effort said continued commercial availability of the laptop could benefit OLPC's nonprofit effort, the XO manufacturer and children using it as a learning tool.

why did it have to be 1 for 1 ?

I don't want to sound cynical. I love this project. But I wonder why they did a "buy 1, donate 1", and not a "buy 1, donate 1/4" or so. Meaning, they could have sold it at $250, and have a massive sell for the holiday season. IMHO, what OLPC needs is massive production to lower costs. The ASUS EEE PC, for the same money, buy you something that your child can use, but the whole family can use too (it looks really classy). Oh well ... all the best to all involved, let's hope all the children in the world have access to information soon, for a brighter future !
