Actually they should look on stability first. I don't care about a fast machine if it dies after 5 minutes.

I agree. It's 2008, my computer runs XP at 1.7 Ghz and 1 GIG of RAM a simple thing like running Firefox or a Java applet causes my computer to practically lock up, fan is running a lot, many minutes to boot up or shut down, etc. In some ways, older computer use was faster--my VAX based email account in 1993 was blink fast, every time--my Gmail account needs to load and sometimes hangs.

If the goal was fast, we'd be there by now. But you're right, the goal has been features, not speed. But most features are never used!
