It could be dismissed as mere saber rattling by the old guard protecting its turf. Still, when the CEO of a major vendor starts talking litigation, the threat has to be taken seriously.

Gee, that sounds familiar.
Typical corporate thinking. It's all about revenue. Forget about the consumers, forget about pride in doing something right. Heck, forget even about the product itself. As long as it's "good enough', they'll push it out to make a buck on the deal.
The bottom line is money for these people. The principles and practices of "good business" went out the window years ago for these folks. For them, it's all about the profits.
